Board approves Lightspeed monitoring software, teacher laptop refresh and multimedia lab replacements

Franklin Regional approved three technology purchases Monday: a Lightspeed Digital Insight subscription to monitor application usage and privacy; a scheduled refresh of teacher and administrator Windows laptops; and replacement of aging Mac hardware in the multimedia lab.
Technology director Mr. Schreckengoss told the board Lightspeed “will sit on our network and monitor our educational programs” and provide usage and student‑data privacy scores. The district hopes the tool will identify underused paid subscriptions and notify staff if vendors change privacy terms so the district can reassess whether to continue using an application.
The board also approved a routine teacher/admin laptop replacement as part of the district’s refresh cycle and replacement of six‑year‑old Macs in the multimedia lab that faculty said are experiencing frequent failures. Those items were presented as standard purchases and approved as part of the consent agenda.
Administrators said Lightspeed is a one‑year contract and can be discontinued if it does not deliver expected savings or compliance monitoring.
The purchases are intended to improve classroom technology reliability, strengthen compliance oversight for student privacy and refresh devices used for curriculum and media production.
