The board recognized a large group of students who received scholarships from the Davenport Schools Foundation and introduced the foundation’s new director, Steve Arens.
Superintendent Schneckloff introduced Arens as the foundation’s new director and described Arens as a Davenport West graduate and longtime community philanthropist. “We are very proud to introduce our new director foundation, Mr. Steve Arens,” the superintendent said.
Arens told the board he began the role May 1 and that he looked forward to partnering with administration, educators and community supporters to generate resources for students. “I am excited to help drive resources for students and schools. Congratulations,” Arens said.
A scholarship committee member read a long list of recipients and scholarship names from each high school and mid‑city programs; the transcript lists individual awards for Central, North and West high schools and several memorial and foundation scholarships by name. The board invited scholarshipees forward for a group photo and publicly thanked foundation volunteers and scholarship scorers.
During the recognition, the superintendent and board praised the number and range of scholarships and highlighted student accomplishments. A student board member spoke on behalf of recipients and thanked the foundation: “I would like to extend an extreme thank you to the foundation. None of this would be possible without your hard work,” the student board member said.
Board members also thanked the foundation for its role in supporting students’ post‑secondary pathways and noted the value of volunteers who score applications. No formal board vote was associated with the recognition; the event occurred early in the meeting and included a brief photo opportunity and remarks.
