Board to add a third-grade teacher after finance committee finds funds

Staff said the finance committee and principals reviewed options including transferring dollars between funds, freezing general-fund capital outlay items, and recoding positions to free payroll dollars. As presented, those measures make room in the 2025'26 budget to hire an additional teacher in the lower grades.
A district presenter said principals and the finance team'after "sharpening the pencil"'recommended the highest need was in third grade. The board approved proceeding with hiring an additional third-grade teacher for next year; the approval was part of a grouped motion that passed by voice vote.
Board members thanked committees and staff for finding the funding. Staff said further staffing details, including recruitment and exact funding lines, will be finalized over the summer and reported to the board.
