The Chickasha Public School District Board of Education approved a new contract with Scissor Tail Therapy LLC to provide occupational therapy services through therapist Christy Gates.
Staff told the board that Gates has provided services to the district for approximately five to six years under a larger firm run by Mary White. Mary White is downsizing and transferred the district’s assignment to Gates, who started her own company. Administrators said Gates is familiar to district staff and her contract mirrors the prior agreement; they also told the board that Gates’ fees are somewhat higher than prior rates, noting that Mary White had not raised fees for many years.
A motion to approve the contract was made, seconded and adopted by the board. No budgetary detail beyond the statement that fees were higher was presented in the public discussion, and staff described the agreement as mirroring the prior contract in terms of services and structure.
Staff indicated these service agreements are usually hourly because the number of sessions and participating students can vary; administrators said that hourly arrangements have worked well for the district.
