Commissioners authorize reopening of collective bargaining with sheriff’s deputies, name negotiating team

El Paso County Commissioners Court voted May 12 to authorize reopening collective bargaining negotiations on wages with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officers Association and to appoint the county negotiating team.
County administration recommended reopening negotiations and presented a proposed negotiating team. The court appointed a team comprising Chief Emmanuel Soria (Sheriff’s Office), Melissa Carrillo (Deputy County Administrator), Sam Trujillo (HR Director), county legal adviser Charlie Madrid and Chief Administrator Betsy. Commissioners said the action will allow staff and counsel to return to talks with the union.
Action: Motion to reopen collective bargaining negotiations and to appoint the negotiating team carried on a recorded vote.
What’s next: The negotiating team will meet with association representatives; any agreed terms that require court approval or funding will return to commissioners for authorization.
