Lake Dallas ISD certifies May 3 election results; three trustees sworn in

The Lake Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 12, 2025, unanimously approved Denton County’s official tally for the May 3 school board election and administered the oath of office to three newly elected trustees.

The board heard the county-reported totals for each contested place and then voted to accept the results. Trustee Mark Tucker moved to approve the vote count; Trustee Appleby seconded. The board voted 7-0 to accept the canvass and declare the results official.

Denton County’s tally, as read into the record, showed for Place 3: Ginger Collier — absentee 9, early voting 492, election day 358, total 859 (opponent Tony Jones: total 109); for Place 4: Scott Baird — absentee 11, early voting 532, election day 357, total 900; for Place 7: Bruce Smith — absentee 11, early voting 520, election day 351, total 882. After the vote the board declared the results and congratulated the winners.

After certifying the results, the board administered the oath of office to the three members. Melissa (staff member) administered the oath to Trustee Ginger Collier, who repeated, "I, Ginger Collier, do solemnly swear" as part of the oath; Trustee Scott Baird and Trustee Bruce Smith likewise repeated the oath administered by staff.

No members of the public had signed up for public comment before the certification. Following the swearing-in, the board moved on to elect officers and other agenda items.
