Council approves airport lease amendment reducing acreage and annual rent

The Paris City Council approved an amendment to a pasture lease around the city airport that removes acreage from the leased parcel to allow for hangar and taxiway development and reduces the annual lease payment.
City staff said the Eatherleys have leased roughly 698.9 acres around the north portion of the airport for pasture. As airport hangar development expanded north of the field, a provision in the lease allows the city to cancel or reduce acreage for airport infrastructure. Staff said the amendment removes approximately 95.59 acres from the lease area to support development; annual rent will decrease accordingly.
Staff identified a reduction in the annual lease payment from $10,483.50 to $9,028.75 (a reduction staff said in remarks would be roughly $1,455). The staff presenter said the lease year runs May to May and that any refund to the lessee would be determined after consultation with the city’s airport attorney and finance staff. Council approved the amended lease on a 5-0 vote.
The motion approved the amendment and authorized staff to finalize lease terms; no additional public hearing was required at the meeting.
