Tropical Middle School students distribute wristbands to promote driving-safety project

Students from Tropical Middle School visited RHS to share an NPDL (New Pedagogies for Deep Learning) project encouraging driving safety and use of wristbands that read “Drive safe, save a life,” a student said.
Caden, a seventh‑grader from Tropical Middle School, said the project focuses on discouraging driving under the influence and distracted driving. "The word we wanna spread around ... drive safe. Just you drive safe, you save save a life, basically," he said.
Caden estimated that about 28,000 teenagers die each year from drugs and alcohol, as stated in the interview. "About estimated about 28000," he said. The students said they plan to distribute wristbands to high school students, teachers and adults and set a goal of saving about five lives through their outreach.
They also cited a local teacher, Mr. Stevenson, who died in a car crash as the project’s motivation. "We had a teacher, mister Stevenson, who died in a car accident. We we miss it very much, and we don't want that happen to everybody else," the student said.
The initiative is part of classroom work that brings middle and high school students together to share safety messages with the school community.
