Commissioners approve transfers for jail, IT and elections; confirm election-week schedule and Memorial Day closures

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. — At its May 13 meeting the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners approved four budget transfer requests and outlined the county's schedule for the upcoming primary election and Memorial Day observances.
The transfers approved were:
- Jail: $5,000 transfer from contingency to address gas-operated boiler repairs after two of three boilers developed leaks; county staff said work is in progress.
- Information Technology: $5,000 transfer from maintenance to materials and supplies to cover Amazon purchases; the controller’s office noted such purchases should come from materials and supplies.
- Voters Office: a transfer of $252.24 from contracted services into equipment lease and rentals to pay invoices to a vendor (Hippie Bo's) and a larger transfer of $25,000 from contracted services into materials and supplies to support the May 20, 2025 primary election.
Commissioners approved the transfers by motion and roll call.
The board confirmed its calendar for the election period: the board of elections will convene Monday, May 19, to receive a final report from the elections office and will recess the meeting rather than adjourn to preserve the ability to reconvene quickly if an emergency arises. The courthouse will be closed Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. The board also reminded residents to vote in the May 20 primary and noted customary county participation in local Memorial Day ceremonies.
