The county administrator told commissioners they have accepted another job and will leave in May; the board asked for a week to consider whether to appoint an interim or open the county administrator recruitment and discussed maintaining continuity.
Mason County’s county administrator told the Board of County Commissioners they have accepted a job offer and will leave the county at the end of May, prompting discussion about interim arrangements and the process for filling the position.
“I have accepted a job offer, and so I will be leaving Mason County at the May,” the county administrator said during administrative updates, and offered to support the county during transition and to assist after departure if needed.
Commissioners asked staff for a week to consider options, including appointing an interim administrator or opening a national recruitment. One commissioner said an interim is preferable, recalling the operational difficulty the county experienced during the COVID-era leadership gap. Staff noted Human Resources is actively recruiting for the HR director role and that the administrator’s team is prepared to post and manage a recruitment if the commission chooses to open the position.
The administrator said they will meet with direct reports and invited the board chair to join a Thursday meeting to plan the transition communications and continuity of information flows. Staff recommended protecting operational continuity by using internal staff (including a staff member identified as Christopher) as a point person to collect and deliver requested information to commissioners while the position is vacant.
Commissioners asked for one week to review options; staff said they will return with recommendations and formal steps to post or appoint an interim as directed by the commission.
