Library Director Ryan told trustees the library continues to experience uneven temperature control and related public and staff complaints. He said the building reached roughly 76–77 degrees during a recent candidates night and that some very humid days have made indoor conditions worse than outside. Ryan said staff are told not to open windows because that "confuses the temperature control system," and he plans to meet with facilities staff (John) to reassess thermostat zoning and control.
He described the pattern that when the air conditioner is turned on it tends to make the downstairs (children’s room) very cold while leaving upstairs warmer; that inconsistency has persisted despite previous thermostat upgrades. Trustees asked the director to follow up with facilities and, if needed, raise the issue with DPW so the town’s facilities staff can evaluate ducts, zoning and programmatic needs.
Ryan also reported a small accounting correction: a museum-pass charge had been logged to the wrong line, creating a roughly $54 negative in one line; staff transferred $100 from a dues line to correct the entry and zero out a subscription line. He said he would continue to refine month-end procedures.
On grounds and programs, Ryan said the native plant garden is progressing and volunteers and a youth nature club have been active; the library has received interest in an adult companion birding program and is exploring hiring a local birding instructor. Trustees and staff discussed benches, a broken teak bench that has been awaiting repair and whether DPW or facilities would complete the work; trustees agreed to follow up.
