County recognizes dispatchers and sheriff’s staff with regional telecommunications awards

Johnson County officials and staff honored emergency communications personnel and sheriff’s deputies for regional awards and lifetime achievements during the April 17 meeting, highlighting training, quality management and long service.
Johnson County managers and elected officials recognized members of the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and sheriff’s office for awards presented by the Mid‑America Regional Council’s annual public safety telecommunications celebration.
Penny Postoak Ferguson, county manager, introduced Sergeant Roy Castle and Kate Dorsey (ECC operations manager) to present awards. Dorsey noted Ryan Reschke received an outstanding training performance award for coordinating training schedules and curriculum since joining in 2008; Gail Wash received a lifetime achievement award for long service and leadership in quality and peer support and is scheduled to retire in July. Sergeant Castle said Master Deputy Heather Bebout of the sheriff’s office received a lifetime achievement award and highlighted her years of training, dispatch work and leadership on programs such as the county’s Take Me Home program for residents with health concerns.
Chair Mike Kelly thanked awardees and said high‑quality emergency communications are an important component of public safety and a cost the county is willing to support. Commissioner Ashcraft, who serves on a 911 committee, described the work of dispatchers as setting a standard in the region and thanked staff for their service.
No formal action was taken; the recognition was part of the manager’s report.
