Board asked to increase term contract authority for wastewater engineering firms by $4 million

Johnson County staff asked the Board of County Commissioners on April 17 to increase the current-year contract authority for term-and-supply engineering services supporting wastewater treatment and pumping asset renewal projects.
The request would increase contract authority for seven prequalified engineering firms from $10,000,000 to $14,000,000 for the current contract year (RFP 2021-029). The firms listed in the agenda materials are Black & Veatch Corporation; Burns & McDonnell; Corollo Engineers Inc.; CDM Smith; George Butler Associates Inc.; Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.; and Olson Associates. Susan Pekarek said no new project funding was requested; the change would allow the county to authorize multi-year projects while the work continues across the contract year.
Pekarek told commissioners the contracts were authorized in 2021 and are in the fourth year with one-year renewals; the county typically spends about $8 million per year under the authority. She said several multi-year projects have been authorized and the county will exceed the current $10 million authority if the board does not approve the increase. Commissioner Ashcraft asked whether the increase was for one year only; Pekarek said the request is for the current contract year only.
The item will be placed on consent for the next business session, Pekarek said. No formal vote was taken at the agenda review.
