Board sets June public hearings for employee bonus ordinance and farm-use-vehicle tax exemption

Buckingham County supervisors set public hearings in June for two proposed ordinances: an employee-bonus ordinance required by a state process and a sample farm-use-vehicle ordinance to exempt certain vehicles from personal-property tax.
Staff told the board that state guidance requires a local ordinance in order for the county to accept a state-provided employee bonus; the county attorney prepared a draft ordinance included in the meeting packet. The board set a public hearing for June to consider adoption of the bonus ordinance.
On a related personnel and taxation matter, staff presented a sample farm-use-vehicle ordinance prepared with the county attorney following board direction at a prior meeting. The ordinance would create a personal-property tax exemption for farm-use vehicles. The board also set a public hearing for the farm-use-vehicle ordinance in June.
Both motions to schedule the hearings were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. No ordinances were adopted at the meeting; the hearings will allow public comment prior to any adoption vote.
