Board accepts VDOT six-year plan, schedules comprehensive-plan public hearing and refers a zoning map amendment to planning commission

The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors took several planning and zoning actions: it accepted the VDOT six-year plan, set a public hearing for the final draft comprehensive plan, and authorized the zoning office to accept a rezoning application and forward it to the planning commission.

The board voted to accept the six-year plan after a motion and second; the chair recorded the vote as approved. Planning staff reported that the Buckingham County Planning Commission and Commonwealth Regional Council had worked on the comprehensive plan update since spring 2023 and recommended approval of the final draft by a 6-to-1 vote after an April 28 public hearing. The board set a public hearing for the final draft comprehensive plan on June 9 at 6 p.m.; staff said the draft would be available online and in the county office for public review.

Separately, staff reported receiving a landowner inquiry about rezoning property in the northeastern portion of the county (Marshall Magisterial District) from A-1 to either R-1 or R-2 to allow a major subdivision. The board authorized the zoning office to accept the application and send it to the planning commission for review and public hearing.

All motions on these planning items were moved, seconded and approved by the board; votes were recorded as unanimous in the transcript.
