Buckingham County supervisors approved moving forward with a lone bid totaling $273,446.50 to install water and sewer lines to a hotel site, and agreed to use the county's economic development reserve or year-end balance to pay for the work.
Staff told the board the original project estimate dated from about five years earlier. The single bid covers 740 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer line, 565 feet of 8-inch water line, associated manholes, valves and taps. Only one contractor responded to the solicitation, staff said.
County staff outlined two funding options: appropriate year-end balances or use the county's economic development reserve fund, which staff said holds approximately $725,000. Supervisors debated rebidding the work to seek additional bidders, but a motion to accept the existing bid and fund it from the economic development reserve was moved, seconded and approved.
The board's approval authorizes staff to execute the contract and proceed with installation so the hotel project can move forward. Planning and utilities staff will monitor contract performance and completion.
