Board approves Yogaville "village commons" special-use permit after supporters speak at hearing

The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a special-use permit for a multiuse event center proposed by applicant David Waters, after a public hearing in which neighbors and community members spoke in favor.
Planning staff introduced case 25SUP354, identifying the site as tax map 46, parcel 19 (2.192 acres at 76 and 80 The Way) and tax map 46, parcel 21 (4.85 acres at 71 The Way), all in District 5. The request covers construction and operation of a multiuse event center for activities "including, but not limited to, vendor markets, local artisans, food vendors, seasonal festivals, arts and cultural events, life celebrations and community events," planning staff told the board.
Eight people signed up to speak at the hearing; the speakers included residents and representatives of the Yogaville community who described the project as a community hub. "It's exciting to witness the culmination of a long dream of many community members...to have a dedicated space for the social and economic development of our area," one speaker said.
After public comment, a motion to approve the special-use permit was made, seconded and approved by the board. The board chair called for the vote and recorded "7 yes."
The board closed the public hearing and approved case 25SUP354, allowing the applicant to proceed under the conditions attached to the permit. Planning staff indicated the case had been introduced at the board's April meeting and that the applicant was present and had signed up for the hearing.
