Board recognizes DECA national finalists and honors teacher with Kansas Teaching Excellence Award

Leavenworth High School DECA chapter returned from nationals with finalists and medalists and received a board certificate; Liz Anstine was announced as the 2025 Kansas Teaching Excellence Award winner and will advance to the national competition.
The board recognized Leavenworth High School’s DECA chapter for state and national competition success and presented a certificate honoring the chapter’s representation during the 2024–25 school year.
Students and advisers described fundraising, local competitions and a recent trip to the International Career Development Conference in Orlando. A student said the chapter produced two national finalists and medalists; adviser and chapter representatives outlined philanthropy events, a school store staffed in part by special education students, and an invitation for board members to judge the district’s local DECA competition at the University of Saint Mary.
The meeting also included a presentation by the Kansas National Education Association recognizing Liz Anstine as the 2025 Kansas Teaching Excellence Award recipient. Sherry Schwans introduced the award and noted the honoree will advance to the national teaching excellence competition. Anstine addressed the board and thanked colleagues and the community.
Board members and the superintendent offered congratulations. The recognitions were presented during the meeting’s recognition segment and recorded in the meeting minutes.
