Police, fire report: 889 calls for service, 150 fire responses and staffing updates

Lebanon Police Department and Lebanon Fire Department delivered regular department reports at Tuesday’s Board of Works meeting outlining recent calls, arrests, training and staffing plans.
Lebanon Police Chief Morgan reported the department had responded to 889 calls for service since the last meeting and recorded 14 arrests: six for operating while intoxicated, three on warrants, three for driving while suspended, one for possession of methamphetamine and one for domestic battery. LPD took 31 crash reports and sent two gun-permit applications to the state for final approval.
Chief Morgan also listed recent training: Officer Jackson Bland completed an impact-munitions instructor course; Lieutenant James Newland, Sergeant Grady Robertson and Officer Tim Edmonds attended the Indiana SWAT Officers Association Conference; Sergeant James Kuntz, Detective Austin McCloskey and Officer Andrew Hampshire attended the 2025 Indiana Traffic Safety Conference and received recertifications in DRE and SFSTs.
Lebanon Fire Chief Batts said Lebanon Fire responded to 150 emergency calls in the past two weeks, logged 482 hours of training, conducted one public education event and completed 90 commercial inspections. The department certified Spencer Kearns and Kurt Keller as state fire investigators and reported multiple personnel completed project lifesaver and extrication training. Chief Batts said the department completed the ladder-climb portion of the hiring process and will hold Board of Works interviews next week for the top five candidates to fill one vacancy due to retirement.
Both chiefs invited questions; board members had none. The reports will be entered into the record and filed with department minutes when available.
