Courtney Parish raised a question during public comment about whether the city would consider taking over the road that leads to the Humane Society and whether the city still needed a roughly 750‑foot segment that had been discussed under a prior administration.
City staff said County Surveyor Jason Henderson previously brought the matter to staff’s attention and that staff has been reviewing the information. Staff advised the road currently appears not to be a city road and that ownership and easement records are unclear; the city would need to take property or obtain easements to make it a city road.
Parish said the property may have been a single parcel previously and that the previous owner sold the building that now houses the Humane Society without releasing easements; staff said they will circle back and appreciated the resident’s partnership.
No formal action or motion to accept jurisdiction of the road was made at the meeting. Council asked staff to follow up with the resident and relevant county offices to clarify ownership and easement status.
