Fordyce Road nears finish; board approves $4,128.09 change order for seeding near new elementary school

City engineers reported substantial progress on the Fordyce Road reconstruction and the Board of Works approved a modest change order to add seeding where the school corporation seeded its property.
Kevin Kulek, engineering director, said street lights are installed and crews are relocating meter pits and water services outside sidewalks. He said driveway and sidewalk pours were scheduled the week of May 20, with mainline paving expected around May 30 and an overall completion date “right around June 1,” roughly two months ahead of schedule.
Later in the meeting the board approved change order No. 12 for Milestone Contractors to seed the area behind the newly poured path where the adjacent school corporation had chosen to seed rather than sod. Kulek explained the city’s unit-price contract was written for sodding disturbed areas, but matching the school’s seeded area made sense and reduced long-term cost. The board approved the change order in the amount of $4,128.09.
Kulek said the seeding approach will avoid unnecessary sod placement in areas outside the right of way; he described the adjustment as ultimately a cost-saving measure for the project. The board recorded the approval and noted the project remains within budget and contingency limits.
