Sumner to consider contract amendment after sale of Stafford Suites to Sumner ALC, LLC

City Administrator Jason Wilson said at the May 12 Sumner City Council study session that Stafford Suites was acquired by Sumner ALC, LLC and the new owner wants to continue providing the city's senior center services under the same contract terms.
"Stafford Suites was recently acquired by Sumner ALC, LLC, and the new owners do desire to continue providing senior center services to the city under the exact same terms," Wilson said. "No other changes to it. It is a bit time sensitive, so this will be on your agenda next week because they wanted to get this agreement in place before they close any sale."
The amendment will replace the named contracting party in the existing agreement; Wilson said the change is procedural and time sensitive but that the provider intends to keep the existing senior center staff. He described how Stafford Suites currently hires a separate senior center director, part-time staff and a transportation person, and that Catholic Community Services provides food service under contract.
Councilmembers asked for background on the new owner. Councilmember Barbara asked, "Do you have any information about the the company that bought Stafford Suites?" Wilson said he had spoken with Tina Preece, who runs Stafford Suites, and that the new owner operates memory care facilities in Edgewood and Auburn and forms separate LLCs for individual operations. Councilmember Beth noted the new owner had not previously done business in Sumner despite the LLC name, and Councilmember Andy asked whether references or a company website were available.
No formal council action was taken during the study session. Wilson said the contract amendment will appear on the council meeting agenda next week for formal consideration and any vote would occur then. The council's discussion focused on provider background and staff continuity; there was no motion or vote recorded at the May 12 meeting.
What happens next: the city will place the contract amendment on the next council agenda for formal consideration; staff noted the timing is tied to the pending sale closing.
