Council approves $60,000 contract for Grizzly Golf Course drainage improvements and path repairs

The Mason City Council on May 12 authorized a $60,000 contract with Stauffer Site Services LLC to perform drainage improvements at Grizzly Golf Course.
Staff said the area between holes 8 and 9 contains two tunnels and is very flat, leading to standing water after rain events. The standing water has damaged the asphalt cart path and contributed to recurring potholes. The approved work will add drainage to prevent water pooling and replace the problem asphalt path with a concrete path in the affected area.
Public works staff also noted the work will use excavated material to help redirect water away from nearby condominiums where prior water-main breaks have caused problems. Stauffer Site Services submitted the lowest responsive bid and staff recommended award.
Council approved the contract and staff said the work is expected either this summer or in the fall, with completion by the end of the year.
