The Park and Recreation Board voted to refer a proposal by Portage Youth Baseball to construct a press/score box at the Little League complex to the Planning Commission for site-plan review.
Parks staff said the portable press box would sit on an existing slab placed when the batting cages were installed and would provide scorekeeping space above and storage below. The youth baseball organization will pay for the structure and donate electrical work; the city maintains a use agreement with Portage Youth Baseball and staffs said no additional city funds were required for the building itself.
A board member moved to refer the press-box proposal to the planning commission and the motion was seconded and carried by roll call (Camrath: yes; Carlson: yes; McReese: yes; Sulik: aye; Bernander: aye; Donahue: aye). Parks staff said the group will work with city planning staff on required site-plan details and that the project would be managed to meet city codes.
