Wright County road project, Costco coordination and public-safety updates reported at Otsego council meeting

Wright County project and Costco coordination Council member/staff Dan reported that the County Road 137 project is on schedule and will be built in two phases over 2026, beginning on the section east of Interstate 94; MnDOT has generally approved the project layout, staff said. Dan told the council that the county’s work predates the Costco proposal for the nearby site and that Costco’s developer is coordinating with county and city staff because the developer prefers not to open the store while major roadway construction is underway.
Facility contracts and site work Daryl, a city staff member, said the majority of contracts for a city facility have been returned and that contractors have been assessing electrical and communications infrastructure that will need to be moved. Daryl said contractor mobilization is expected to ramp up in spring when utility relocation work begins. He also said a staffing-plan presentation is tentatively scheduled for the March 11 Public Safety Commission meeting; the council will be invited when the commission finalizes the date.
Public safety and police highlights A public-safety representative reported an increase in calls related to the Northstar program and described coordination with the site operator; staff said the operator installed a fence to reduce trespassing and that incidents have decreased since. The representative also reported that a recent snowstorm produced few accidents within Otsego city limits and that winter road complaints to the city were minimal. The representative recommended a public information post about tax-fraud scams ahead of tax season; city communications staff agreed to publish a notice.
