Otsego council hears updates on biosolids tour, roundabouts, Costco and trunk water main plan

City of Otsego councilmembers used their reports and staff updates on Feb. 10 to relay recent tours, county road plans and local development activity.
Councilmember Corey said he toured the city’s biosolids building with Kurt and staff and described the facility and operations; “the smell wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world,” Corey said, but he thanked facility staff for the tour. Corey also relayed information he received from Chad, the county engineer, about a planned open house to discuss road work: postcards were sent to nearby residents and an online virtual meeting was scheduled. Corey told the council the county is proposing two roundabouts at MacGyver and St. Marks and that three roundabout elements are expected to be built this year with two remaining interchange bridge elements scheduled for 2026.
Councilmembers noted that Costco’s developer has signed a development agreement and that site work is expected to start in the spring; the final plan is being recorded, the council was told. Staff announced that city offices would be closed on Monday, Feb. 17 for Presidents Day and reminded the council of upcoming advisory commission interviews: 13 interviews were scheduled at the Grama Center (fireside room) with 15-minute slots for each applicant.
Public works staff told the council there will be a trunk water main plan coming forward for plan approval; the project would add a looped water main along Odean Avenue from the north end to Seventh Street to provide an additional distribution loop for the city.
Ending: Councilmembers generally treated these as informational updates; no formal actions on the roundabout proposals, Costco development or trunk water main were taken at the meeting. Staff indicated the trunk water main plan will return to the council for formal plan approval.
