County commissioner warns of state proposals shifting eldercare costs to counties, urges constituent outreach

Holland also raised concerns about proposed changes to how long‑term care or other eldercare funding would be handled under the governor’s budget proposal. She said the proposal would shift funding responsibility to counties and that local officials were calculating a possible cost of $2,000,000 (her phrasing) that could affect levies. "We figured that would be $2,000,000. That would be and every million is a levy point," she said. Holland described the proposal as an "unfunded mandate" and urged council members to contact state officials.
She further discussed pressures on home daycares from proposed state licensing changes and said stricter rules may push some home providers to stop operating, reducing local childcare capacity. Holland said local officials and coalitions are working to push back on regulatory changes that could decrease home‑based childcare options.
Holland recommended that residents contact representatives regarding the bills and noted that the county and area legislators were monitoring the proposals. She also said multiple jurisdictions were likely to face levy pressure and school districts were considering levies or bond requests this year.
