The Willmar City Council on Feb. 25 accepted low bids and awarded contracts for two street projects and adopted the associated as‑bid budgets.
City Engineer Jared reported that nine bids were opened for the 20th Street Southeast Improvement Project (project 2501‑A). The low bid was reported at $411,157.40 and was submitted by the low bidder identified in the packet; the council adopted a resolution to accept the bid and award the contract and later approved the as‑bid budget. The motions passed by roll call with unanimous votes.
The council also considered the 2508 seal‑coat improvements project. Four bids were received; the low bid was $213,515.30 from Pearson Brothers of Hanover, Minnesota. The council authorized the award to Pearson Brothers and approved the as‑bid budget; those motions likewise passed unanimously.
Council members asked staff about prior experience with the bidders; staff said their engineering firm had checked references and that the city’s consultant had worked with the vendors before on other projects. The council directed city staff to proceed with contract administration and noted the bid tabulations were provided in the council packet.
