Raymore awards Kurzweil Road design contract to Wilson and Company

The Raymore City Council on May 12 approved a contract with Wilson and Company Inc. for design of the Kurzweil Road project and authorized change orders within budget constraints. The council also approved an emergency reading so design work can begin immediately.

Engineering staff recommended Wilson and Company after receiving four statements of qualifications; the contract amount in staff materials and the initial ordinance reading was $660,015. At the second reading the ordinance text included an amount read as $660,001.15; staff and the presenting engineer clarified the intended award amount is $660,015 and that the project is funded from the 2020 general obligation fund.

Mister Salisbury, who presented the staff report, said the city expects design completion by October to allow bidding and a spring 2026 start of construction. Salisbury said survey crews were ready to mobilize Monday, May 19, and traffic-count equipment could be deployed as soon as the week of the meeting. That schedule was the principal reason staff and council approved the emergency reading, Salisbury said.

Council Member Delgado moved approval of Bill 39-67; Council Member Holman seconded. The council voted unanimously, 8-0, to approve the contract and to adopt the ordinance by emergency reading. The ordinance authorizes the city manager to enter into the contract and to approve change orders within established budget constraints.

Staff and the contractor representatives — identified in the meeting as Cody and Darren from Wilson and Company — said they are prepared to begin the survey and traffic-data collection needed to keep the aggressive design schedule on track.
