Administration explained the letter would open formal discussions with the owner and that the township can only pay up to an appraised value; a board member stressed the action is an exploratory step, not a commitment to purchase. If the appraisal and negotiations produce a mutually agreeable price, the board said it would return for final approval.
Trustees noted community interest in a playscape and that traffic, crosswalks and safety would be part of any subsequent design and acquisition discussion. The motion carried on the voice vote; the administration will commission the appraisal and report back to the board before any purchase decision.
