The chief also reported an upcoming action item that will request authorization to buy 13 laptops; the laptops are intended to be assigned to squad cars rather than individually to officers, reducing the total fleet to 13 devices with one spare and one device allotted to a DEA-position officer in summer. The chief said the laptop purchase would be presented to the board as an action item.
On overdose response, the department described a partnership with the Guidance Center of Southgate to provide Narcan to members of the public without questions. Dispatch will provide one dosage unit to any adult who asks; staff said Narcan is used to reverse opioid overdoses and that the department’s dispatch will hand out the medication without collecting names.
Deputy Chief Bridal Brozak (unable to attend for part of the meeting) and Sergeant Vasquez were cited for reserve-unit activity: the reserve unit logged 64 donated hours in March and helped with a community-run marathon that officials said went smoothly.
