Planning commission reports: permit extensions, Leonardtown Apartments concept approval, evidence storage facility design moving forward

Planning Department staff reported May 12 that the Planning Commission considered items in April and granted a 12-month extension request for a proposed senior living center at Route 4 and Senior Church Road, and granted concept approval for the Leonardtown Apartments at the end of Courthouse Drive.
Mike Bailey of the planning department told the commissioners the senior living center site showed progress — demolition and cleanup — so the commission approved a one-year extension for the permit. The Leonardtown Apartments project at the Fenwick/ Courthouse Drive intersection received concept approval to proceed with design work.
Bailey also reported that in the coming month the commission will review final design plans for the Sheriff's Evidence Storage Facility at the Governmental Center complex; he said the project had received approvals from soil conservation and public works, expected approval from the State Fire Marshal pending responses to four minor comments, and coordination with the State Highway Administration.
Planning staff invited questions and noted these items will continue through the town’s review and permitting process.
