The City of Mission hosted a National Police Memorial ceremony to honor officers who have died in the line of duty and to recognize law enforcement personnel from the city, state and federal partners. Family members, local police and representatives from other agencies attended the event to pay tribute.
"They gave their life up to protect others, and I just want people to remember that," said the spouse of a fallen officer, who described her husband as someone "who loved his job" and "loved spending time with his family." She said he worked at the Mission Police Department and took community impact seriously.
A department representative described the day as "very important" and noted that Mission has had four officers die in the line of duty. The representative thanked participating agencies including the sheriff's office, municipal partners, deputy constables and federal partners for their support and attendance. "For us, we will always be connected with them and their families from here on out," the speaker said.
No formal actions, votes or policy decisions were recorded in the transcript of the ceremony. The event was described throughout as a remembrance and expression of gratitude toward law enforcement and families of the deceased.
