Tobacco Junction asks council to close downtown street for First Friday car show; council approves

A local business organizer asked the McGregor City Council to authorize a temporary street closure on June 6 for a “First Friday” car show meant to revive downtown commerce.
Eddie, speaking for Tobacco Junction and a coalition of about a dozen downtown businesses, described the plan as a family-oriented car show with live music, art and shopping promotions and asked the city to close Fourth Street between Main and South Jefferson from roughly 5 to 8 p.m., with barricades set at 4:30 p.m. He told council that about 13–15 businesses on Main Street had signed on to participate and that organizers would remove and stack barricades for city pickup after the event.
Councilors and staff voiced support; staff recommended approval and confirmed the city will set and later remove barricades. The motion to approve the street closure carried unanimously.
Eddie said the organizers plan at least two or three such events per year and proposed business punch cards and monthly prize drawings to encourage shoppers to visit downtown during the events.
