The Mayfield Heights City Council on May 12 approved two emergency resolutions to replace aging equipment in the service department: a Ford F-250 pickup truck and a Bobcat skid steer.
Mister Schmidlin read Resolution 2025-21 authorizing the mayor to contract with Classic Ford to buy a new Ford F-250 for the service department. The council suspended the rules and approved the purchase under the state contract price of $54,522. Schmidlin told council the truck "was approved in 2025 service department's budget" and said the replacement will allow sale of retired vehicles on GovDeals when the new units arrive. The presentation stated the current pickup "has served the department for the past, 46 years."
Council also approved Resolution 2025-22 to purchase a new Bobcat skid steer from Bobcat of Akron under a Sourcewell contract. Council members were told the machine will replace a 2005 unit (about 20 years old), will include a new snow pusher box and is funded from the city's 401 Road Equipment Fund.
Both purchases passed by roll-call votes after motions to suspend rules and approve were made. Council cited the equipment's age and the service department's operational needs, including winter snow removal capabilities for the skid steer.
