Hutchinson County commissioners voted to table consideration of the county property insurance proposal submitted through the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) after commissioners raised questions about deductibles and property valuations.
Staff summarized key changes in the proposal and the commissioners noted that the “all other perils” deductible increased from $5,000 to $10,000 while the convective storm deductible remained $100,000. Commissioners also discussed whether TAC had recently updated building appraisals and whether equipment valuations were current. Staff and commissioners recalled an appraisal visit roughly three years earlier and noted some equipment values may have changed.
Commissioners discussed the July 1 renewal deadline for the policy year and noted the county must approve coverage before that date. Because several valuation questions and possible coverage changes remained unresolved, a commissioner moved to table the TAC property insurance proposal and place it on the June 1 agenda to allow more review. The motion passed.
Commissioners did not authorize a binding commitment to TAC at the meeting and did not provide a dollar amount for any premium or deductible changes. They instructed staff to review valuations, especially for newly built buildings and equipment, and return with additional detail at the next meeting.
