Council approves $1,500 community grant for Tri Village Packers to feed local schoolchildren

Jane Jarrow, representing the Tri Village Lions Club and the Tri Village Packers program, described the group's work feeding children who face food insecurity in local schools and asked the council for $1,500 in community grant funding.
"For the last 2 school years now, we have been providing food to go home over long breaks," Jarrow said. She told the council that the program shipped 93 bags at Christmas weighing about 10 pounds each and that the group has packed more than 5,400 individual food items. Jarrow said about 400 children in the Grandview and Upper Arlington schools currently receive free school lunch and that the program supplements those needs during breaks and supplies grab-and-go tubs in schools.
Director Chris Miller confirmed available funds in the community grants budget and council members moved and seconded approval. "Move to approve the community grant as requested," a council member said; the motion was seconded and the council voted "aye," and the grant was approved without recorded opposition.
Jarrow said the Lions Club has shifted its pancake breakfast to May 31 and will distribute free tickets to families served by the program to encourage engagement and to share information about other available resources. She also said the Lions Club has applied for a UA Community Foundation grant to expand holiday coverage.
The council directed staff to coordinate with the Tri Village Lions Club on grant deposit procedures. No additional conditions or reporting requirements were recorded on the meeting minutes.
