The Caldwell County Board of Education approved several human-resources items covering teacher and administrative contracts for the coming school year.
Dr. Thomas Howe, assistant superintendent for human resources, presented multiple grouped motions and asked the board to approve the usual and customary action items. The motions covered a) general contract approvals for non-contracted and contracted employees, b) one-year teacher contracts for the 2025–26 school year, c) two-year contracts for eligible teachers (2025–27), and d) administrative contracts beginning in 2025 that run four years.
Board members approved each package by voice vote. During the two-year contract vote, one board member stated a need to recuse themselves; the transcript records the recusal but does not identify the member by name.
A board member asked for clarification about end dates on listed contracts. Dr. Howe responded that teacher contracts are one-year agreements that end June 30, 2026, for the 2025–26 year and apologized that the end dates were not shown on the printed documents: “Yes, sir. Yes. It is a 1 year contract. It would end June thirtieth of 2026. It’s just not on there. I apologize,” he said. The board was also told that hourly employees are at-will and therefore do not have the same contract end dates.
Board members indicated general support for hiring activity and for filling vacancies ahead of the new school year. All motions passed by voice vote and the board directed staff to continue recruitment and to ensure contract documents clearly show term dates going forward.
