Board approves Career & College Promise agreement with Caldwell Community College, with naming corrections

The Caldwell County Board of Education voted to approve the annual Career and College Promise partnership agreement with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI), subject to correcting the formal names used in the agreement.

Andy Poole presented the agreement to the board on behalf of Assistant Superintendent Dr. Katrina McKellen, describing the Career and College Promise program that allows high-school students to enroll in college courses while still in high school. The program’s partnership agreements must be reviewed and approved annually by the local board and then sent to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Before the vote, a board member asked that the document language be adjusted so the agreement lists the proper governing names: the Caldwell County Board of Education and the Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (or the college’s governing body) as parties to the agreement. The board agreed to approve the agreement “subject to the proper names being amended” in the written document.

A motion to approve the agreement (as corrected for party names) passed by voice vote. Board members said the corrections are administrative and that the board intends for the finalized agreement to reflect the correct legal parties before submission to the state.

The approval permits continued high-school access to college coursework under the Career and College Promise program for the coming year and will be transmitted to the Department of Public Instruction as required.
