The Medina City Council adopted an ordinance on May 12 authorizing staff to accept fair-market appraisals and proceed with offers for easements needed for the Prospect Street bridge replacement, a project funded in part by an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) grant.
City Engineer Patrick Patton told council the city was “recipients of about a $1,700,000 grant from ODOT” for the Prospect Street bridge replacement and that acquiring four easements is necessary to build the project. Patton said the right-of-way milestone is a key schedule date for the ODOT-funded project and staff requested an emergency clause to meet the grant timeline.
Council approved the emergency clause and the ordinance adopting the appraisals by roll call vote of 7-0. Patton said the authority being granted will allow the city’s agent (the city’s right-of-way/negotiator) to make offers to affected property owners so the project can meet ODOT’s milestones.
The ordinance is intended to enable the city to move forward with right-of-way acquisition and remain on schedule for the ODOT-administered engineering and construction timeline. The council record shows unanimous approval; no conditions or amendments were recorded at the meeting.
