The calendar sets the county's budget-workshop and departmental presentation schedule beginning June 2 and earmarks certain Mondays for workshops and votes on elected-official salaries, tax-rate hearings and the budget. The judge explained the schedule is designed to accommodate publication deadlines — "our papers only publishes once a week" — and to allow extra meeting dates during April and September, when the county typically meets more often for budgeting.
County staff already began scheduling department heads to present; the judge said department presentations will run through July and that commissioners will have nearly three months to prepare. The court approved the calendar on a motion and second; the judge said the planned last-Monday-in-August vote is the goal for adopting the budget, with contingency dates if delays occur.
The court also noted that two senior commissioners were scheduled for July presentations and that the sheriff and veteran services officer would present on July 21. The calendar was adopted by voice vote and commissioners said it should make the budget process more efficient and ensure compliance with statutory advertising and hearing requirements.
