Lakeland board approves updated job descriptions; most positions are existing roles

The Lakeland School System Board of Education approved a package of job descriptions at its May business meeting, a routine action the superintendent said ensures the board reviews how public dollars support positions.
“Job descriptions as categories must be approved by the board of education,” Superintendent Dr. Horrell said, adding that nearly all of the job descriptions relate to existing positions and that the reorganization reflects system growth and the district’s transition to a full K–12 program.
Dr. Horrell noted that most of the positions are not new and that the reorganization accounts for growth over the last three to seven years; he said there may be three exceptions that are new or materially different. The district previously presented a PowerPoint, archived from the prior week, showing which existing positions map to new titles and where responsibilities changed.
The board approved the job descriptions by voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript. The board later carried an item labeled "lettering" to the June agenda and completed a second-half review of policy manual section 6 with no recommended changes recorded.
