Lakeland board adopts FY 2025-26 budget; new FTE transparency added

The Lakeland School System Board of Education approved its fiscal year 2025-26 budget at the board’s May business meeting, adopting a spending plan that for the first time shows full-time-equivalent positions by function, Superintendent Dr. Horrell said.
Dr. Horrell recommended the budget and thanked Tristan Gately Sweatt, the district’s finance director, along with human-resources and curriculum staff for their roles in preparing the plan. “One of the enhancements that he made was adding FTEs to the budget. So per function, which means basically per category, where there are budget funds being spent. For the first time, you can look at the budget and you can see how many positions that funds,” Dr. Horrell said.
The March 2025 financial summary was attached to the agenda; Dr. Horrell told the board the district is “rounding out the year exactly where we should be for this time of year,” and that the fiscal year ends in June. There were no public comments on the budget during the meeting.
Board members expressed appreciation for the clarity of the presentation archived from the prior week and for the work of the finance and HR teams. The board approved the FY 2025-26 budget by voice vote. The meeting then moved on to other agenda items, including approval of job descriptions and review of policy materials.
