Board honors Floyd Central Navy JROTC precision rifle and drill teams for national success

The New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation recognized Floyd Central’s Navy JROTC precision rifle and drill teams at its May 12 meeting for a season of national-level achievements.
The precision rifle team was undefeated in its local league, won an elite league championship and its area championship, and then qualified for Navy Nationals. The instructor said the team set a Navy record in the precision category at the national meet and finished second in the All-Services championship by two points to a team from Texas. “We set a Navy record at that,” the instructor said.
The drill team also qualified for national competition and returned from the All-Services National Championship with a tied third-place finish and trophies in multiple categories. The instructor said the combined number of trophies for rifle and drill approaches the dozens and estimated the teams won “80 to 100 trophies this year.”
School and board officials praised the students and instructors and invited the community to view team trophies and displays. The recognition was ceremonial; no board action was required.
