Middletown City Schools inducts student artwork into permanent district collection

Middletown City Schools on Monday recognized the 2025 inductees to the district’s permanent art display, thanking students, teachers and families as the works were presented for installation in district buildings and at Central Office.
Nick Donner, an art teacher at Amanda Elementary, said the honored students had “demonstrated exceptional talent and creativity” and thanked Superintendent Deb Hauser, Treasurer Randy Bertram and curriculum coordinator Tracy Neely for support. Donner opened his remarks by quoting John Adams to describe the value of arts education, then introduced each inductee and the school where the artwork was created.
The board and visitors saw a range of works selected for the collection: ink and watercolor perspectives, paper collages, mixed-media collages and paintings, oil pastel symmetry studies, digital photography, woven colored-pencil studies and large abstract pieces. Inductees named during the ceremony included Zoe Aldridge (Central Academy), Joseph Moreland (Miller Ridge), Zaniah Hatton (Creekview), Aurora Taylor (Mayfield Elementary), Lily Embry (Rosa Parks), Max Summers (Wildwood Elementary), Bailey Hurt (Highview Sixth Grade Center), Diane Haywood (Middletown Middle School), Megan Becker (Middletown Middle School), Stella Breeding (Middletown Middle School), Evelyn Hoover (Middletown High School), and several high-school artists including Marisol Hernandez Morales and Micah Cardona Murillo. Some students were accompanied by teachers or principals when their work was called forward.
Donner thanked key district staff and volunteers — including Andy Laswell, Shelly Fuge and Tammy Hager — who support events and the art program. Tracy Neely was recognized for attending the art show on her anniversary and for her curricular support. The works will be displayed across Middletown City Schools, with some on the fourth floor of Central Office and others returned to students’ schools.
The recognition ceremony was presented as part of the regular board meeting and included photo opportunities for families and a short reception. No formal board action was required to accept the donated works into the collection during this session.
