USDA says it will prioritize frontline FSA, APHIS and firefighting jobs after 15,000 deferred resignations

Secretary Brooke Rollins told the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture that roughly 15,000 USDA employees accepted a deferred resignation option and that the agency is actively recruiting to refill mission‑critical positions.
"None of those people were fired," Rollins said, adding that many of the departures were deferred resignations and that USDA is prioritizing re‑hiring in key operational areas. "If they want to come back and if they were in a key position, then we would love to have that conversation," she told Senator Patty Murray.
