Council members considered an update on a proposed police substation at 8509, where staff said the city is considering a contractual agreement that is pending an appraisal.
Councilwoman Taylor asked about appraisal amounts after staff said the first appraisal had come in at $1.425 million. Officials said an asking price of $1.675 million had been mentioned by the seller but that no appraisal had yet validated that figure. "We don't know yet," staff said when asked whether $1.675 million is the property's appraised value.
City staff said the department relocated temporarily to the North Market area and that the transition there has been going well for officers. Officials said the temporary location has provided operational continuity while appraisal and contract steps continue for the 8509 site. No contract was executed during the meeting and councilmembers said they would not pay more than the city's appraisal without further justification or negotiation.
