Livonia council sends long‑disputed Noble building to economic development, strategic planning committee

The Livonia City Council voted 7‑0 to send consideration of the Noble building and site to the council's economic development and strategic planning committee, council members said during the regular meeting.

Councilwoman Kristina Budzinski, who made the motion, said the council had approved a structural analysis in February and gave administration 60 days to provide findings; she said that timeline is “up on Friday” and that the committee should consider the site's long‑term development. "While there's no quick fix, there is a desire to see action taken," Budzinski said.

The move places discussion of possible futures for the site — including redevelopment, reuse as a community space, or demolition — into a committee setting where administration staff will present the structural analysis and participate in planning conversations. Council member Toye said he hopes the site could be repurposed as rentable community space for residents and groups. Other council members expressed frustration that the building has been vacant for several years and said they want a clearer vision and timeline.

City staff told council members that the administration has been coordinating with the Department of Public Works to arrange a site tour so council members can review the building conditions in person. The motion passed without dissent; Budzinski said she would schedule the committee meeting "as soon as possible" and expects administration to present the February‑requested analysis at that meeting.

The action does not itself authorize demolition or redevelopment funding; it formally moves policy discussion and direction to the economic development and strategic planning committee for further review and potential recommendations to the full council.
