City council member says Willowbrook West and North parks, final parks plan will move to council this year

A City Council member told the Parks and Recreation Commission that two new Willowbrook parks will be built as part of a development and the city parks plan will soon move to City Council for funding decisions.
A City Council member told the Oakdale Parks and Recreation Commission on Feb. 10 that Willowbrook West and Willowbrook North parks — required as part of a residential development — will move into construction this year and that the city’s parks plan is nearing completion.
"Willowbrook West And North will be under construction. ... The North Park will be more of a nature park with some trails," the council member said, adding that the West Park will include a full-size soccer field and additional amenities including pickleball courts.
The council member said the parks plan will be finalized with a few tweaks and then presented to the City Council, which will decide funding priorities and timing. He said construction bids will be sought in spring and that much of the work is likely to be wrapped up by fall, so residents should not expect full public use of the new parks during the coming summer while construction is underway.
The council member encouraged residents to provide feedback to commissioners and to council members on park priorities and said the council will determine what gets funded and when. The council member also noted that how the city manages popular amenities such as pickleball courts (for example, reservations versus first-come, first-served) will be part of operational discussions between staff and the commission.
