Board approves Tooton Hills partial roof replacement, authorizes state review

The Simsbury Board of Education voted to approve final plans and drawings for a partial roof replacement at Tooton Hills School and accepted a project cost estimate of $921,437, the board heard at its meeting.

The board also approved a motion authorizing Superintendent Matthew T. Curtis and Board Chair Jeff Tindall to sign Department of Administrative Services form SCG-42 to request state review of the final plans and project manual prepared by JH Architects LLC. The motions were offered, seconded and approved by voice vote; no opposing votes were recorded in the meeting transcript.

Administrators said the plans have already been accepted by the town building department, the fire marshal and health officials. The three votes on the agenda were framed as necessary steps to secure state reimbursement for the work and to move the project into procurement and state review.

Board members who participated in the discussion noted the project is on schedule for work this summer and described the approvals as procedural steps required before state review and funding processes proceed. No amendments to the plans or budget estimate were recorded.

The board did not record a roll-call tally in the public minutes; the meeting transcript shows the motions were approved by voice vote with all present answering "aye." The superintendent and the board chair were authorized to complete signature and submission steps necessary for the Department of Administrative Services review.
